Hospital-trained clinicians,
focused on delivering care.

Lotus was founded in 2014 by Elisha Schafer, who built OCD and concurrent disorders programs at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton and Homewood Health Care. Our 15+ therapists bring that same clinical depth to a private setting, so you don't have to navigate the public-system wait to access it.

How we actually
work

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT is structured work to identify the thought patterns that fuel anxiety and practice replacing them. It's one of the most researched approaches for anxiety disorders, and it's designed to be applied outside the therapy room.

Acceptance & Commitment

ACT focuses less on fighting anxious thoughts and more on what matters to you and how to keep moving toward it. It's often used when anxiety has started shrinking the things you do.

Exposure & Somatic Work

Exposure therapy gradually and safely reduces avoidance patterns that keep anxiety going. Somatic work addresses the physical side (tightness, racing heart, chronic tension) alongside the cognitive piece.

Common questions
How quickly can I get an appointment?
Usually pretty quickly. Most people are matched and booked within the following week. We deliberately keep caseloads manageable so you're not sitting on a waitlist for a month before anything happens. Book a free consultation and we'll find a time that works.
Do you offer virtual sessions, and can I be anywhere in Ontario?
Yes to both. We offer in-person sessions at our Waterdown, Ontario location, and virtual therapy via secure video for anyone across the province. Whether you're in Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton, Kingston, or a smaller town, if you're in Ontario, we can work with you online. A lot of our clients actually mix it up depending on the week, which is totally fine with us.
How do I know which therapist is right for me?
That's exactly what the free 15-minute consultation is for. You don't need to come in with a clear idea of what you need. Just tell us a bit about what's been going on and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. We'll ask a few questions and match you with a therapist whose style, experience, and availability actually fit your situation. If for any reason it's not clicking, we'll help you find someone else on the team.
What if I've never tried therapy before?
You're in good company. A lot of our clients are coming to therapy for the first time. It can feel a bit daunting not knowing what to expect, so we keep the first step really simple. The free consultation is just a conversation. No forms to fill out beforehand, no clinical assessment, no pressure. It's just a chance to talk, ask questions, and figure out if it feels like a good fit. Most people tell us they felt relieved after that first call.
Do I need a referral to book?
No. Lotus is a private practice. You book directly through our online system or by calling us. No doctor's note, no waitlist, no referral required.
Do you accept insurance?
No, we do not direct bill insurance companies. However, if you have insurance coverage / benefits to work with either a Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Social Worker, then you can submit your receipts for reimbursement.
